Nieuw, dendrochronologie bij BIAX!

12 december 2014

In 2015, BIAX Consult expands its services with dendrochronology. Together with the specialist wood research we perform already, we now offer a complete package. Besides describing, identifying, documenting wood, and analyzing tool marks and traces of wear, we can now proceed immediately with selecting for suitability for dendrochronological research and perform the measurements for the dating process. All the results are provided in an integrated report. This saves time and lowers expenses!

Dendrochronology is research in which, on the basis of the growth pattern of tree rings found in wooden objects, a date can be given to the object. In addition, the tree ring pattern can be used to identify clusters of samples to study phasing within sites. Tree ring research can also provide information on the geographical source area of wood (provenance) based on the characteristic growth pattern. This helps with answering archaeological questions about logistics processes of construction work. Check our webpage about dendrochronology for more information.

To learn the discipline of dendrochronological research Dr. Marjolein van der Linden has worked for Stichting RING / RCE in 2014. Recently, BIAX Consult is in possession of high quality equipment which allows measurements to be performed in our own laboratory where the data can also be processed statistically. During the start-up phase of dendrochronology at BIAX Consult prof. Dr. Esther Jansma (Stichting RING / RCE) is involved as an advisor.
